When India announced the lockdown, it resulted in a shift in the media and entertainment consumption habits of the consumers. As people were spending extended periods in their homes, a majority of their time went into consuming online media. One segment amongst these was gaming. These newly formed mannerisms proved to be an inflection point for the sector as people of different demographics took to gaming due to the need to stay connected and entertained.

From coin-based arcade games to Xbox and Playstations, the gaming industry in India has evolved drastically. Today, it is gaining increasing acceptance in the country and has become a mainstream source of entertainment for a growing number of online players. India is a mobile-first gaming market with around 303 million mobile gamers. Due to the growing internet penetration and cheap data, India currently ranks amongst the top five global mobile gaming markets.

With 275+ gaming companies and 15,000+ game developers, Indian Gaming Industry stands in its nascent stage and as per reports, is 1% of the global gaming ecosystem. With more fingers on-screen, keyboards, and controllers, the gaming sector is expected to triple from the current size of $1.8 billion to a $5Bn+ market opportunity by 2025 and is bound to witness unprecedented growth and emerge as a sunrise sector in India.
