Qatar Airways enters metaverse with ‘QVerse’ virtual reality and world’s first MetaHuman cab

Qatar Airways has entered the metaverse with the debut of QVerse, a unique virtual reality (VR) experience for website users.

By using their own Personal Electronic Devices, users of the www.qatarairways.com/QVerse website can now virtually tour and navigate the Premium Check-in area at Hamad International Airport (HIA), as well as the cabin interiors of the airline’s aircraft, including the award-winning Business Class – Qsuite and the Economy Class cabin (PEDs). Qatar Airways, the country’s official carrier, is also the first worldwide airline to use a MetaHuman cabin staff to provide a digitally engaging passenger experience.

“With physical boundaries beginning to be challenged on an increasingly larger scale by the metaverse, it is exciting to embrace a technology that allows all travel enthusiasts to enjoy a unique immersive experience of our award-winning products and services,” said His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive.

“Being the first airline to debut a MetaHuman cabin crew is proof to our unwavering ambition to innovate and please our passengers,” he continued. We are continually looking forward to adopting and implementing new technology that will improve the overall experience of our guests.”

Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, the world’s most powerful real-time 3D production engine, and MetaHuman Creator, a cloud-based programme for building high-fidelity artificial humans, were used to create the experience. Qatar Airways is the first airline in the world to use a MetaHuman cabin crew, which includes a digitally produced high-fidelity 3D human model dubbed ‘Sama,’ which means’sky’ in Arabic. ‘Sama’ provides an interactive customer experience by engaging with the user and bringing them on a virtual voyage of discovery, all while exhibiting the distinctive features in both Business and Economy Class cabins via a narrated screenplay.
